RASE and Nuffield Farming Scholarships launch bitesize guide to succession planning

A free online publication from Nuffield Farming Scholarships and the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE), supported by the Elizabeth Creak Charitable Trust, covers succession planning and overcoming barriers for the next generation of farmers.

‘Young people and succession planning – Overcoming barriers for next generation farmers; A Bitesize Guide’ highlights key findings from seven Nuffield reports, condensed into a 24-page booklet.

Nuffield Scholar and RASE head of technical development Stephen Briggs said: “Succession is a subject which is often thought about, but can be challenging to discuss and difficult to put into practice. The guide tackles different areas as eleven ‘Talking points’, looking at the processes, thoughts and practicalities of succession and bringing in the next generation of farmers.

“The Scholars who have contributed to this guide have each spent more than eight weeks travelling across the world looking at this issue, and their reports are thought-provoking, full of great case studies and practical recommendations. This new Bitesize Guide pulls together their key thoughts, and makes it very easy to access their reports for more information.”

Rupert Alers-Hankey, director of the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust said: “Few farmers are aware of the huge knowledge base that can be accessed via the Nuffield Farming library, and for those who are, finding the time to read large reports may be impractical. This Bitesize Guide is a great way to highlight the reports and make them more accessible.”

Stephen added: “We are pleased that AHDB is supporting this new Bitesize Guide by including it as a resource available as part of its upcoming farming succession meetings, and we would be delighted to see it being shared and used by any other farming organisation or related business.”

You can download the new guide at www.rase.org.uk. A new guide is currently in production and will be released around the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust annual conference in Belfast next month.
