Micronutrition to be the focus at Origin’s Lamma stand

Origin Soil Nutrition (formally Origin Fertilisers) will have a practical demonstration of micronutrition at Lamma, highlighting updates to its NUE-Leg project.

Its team of nutrition agronomists will be on hand to show how micronutrients can be an essential part of prescription fertilisers, with more than 18,000 different products available to match soil deficiencies.

Mandy McAulay, head of marketing and product sustainability, says demonstrating the advantages of applying nutrients in this way is essential.

“We can visually show how the micronutrient coatings are applied to the granules and how these remain during application. By adding the micronutrient in this way, it is evenly coated across 100% of the granules providing maximum soil and root interactions. Live demonstrations are the best way to show farmers and growers how it attaches to the granule.”

    Updates to NUE-Leg

The NUE-Leg collaborative research project explores methods to reduce the carbon footprint of grassland. Part of this involves assessing new prescription nutrition projects through the company’s Nutri-Match service, working in tandem with increased efficiency clovers.

“We now have crops in the ground on our trial farms and we will monitor these over the next year, applying different nutrition formulations and measure the outcomes. The information gained from this will enable us to reduce the carbon footprint, increase sustainability, and help grassland farmers become more productive with modern clover.”

The show will also be a showcase for the company’s rebranding to Origin Soil Nutrition. While it won’t affect how farmer’s buy their fertiliser, the change reportedly reflect the focus on matching nutrients to soil deficiencies to improve sustainability.
