A new safety kit for agricultural operators has been made available, containing items that can help mitigate injury or further incidents in case of a breakdown or accident.
Michael Parrott, co-founder and director of Fleet Packs, developed the Farmpack using his background in commercial fleet requirements. It is delivered in a heavy-duty, waterproof bag that can be personalised with a business logo, and it comes with a carabiner to hang in a convenient place.
“We say it’s the pack we hope you’ll never have to use,” said Mr Parrott. “But we know farming has a poor safety record and frequent lone working. Unfortunately, we can’t stop accidents from happening, but with the tools in this kit you can keep yourself safe, treat any wounds, control a fire until the emergency services arrive, and contact family or colleagues to ensure they know where you are.”
The pack includes:
- 1kg fire extinguisher
- Fire blanket
- First aid kit
- Eyewash station
- Two high-vis vests
- Head torch
- Glass hammer and seat belt cutter
- Two safety light sticks
- Heavy-duty gloves
- Power bank
- Multi-USB charger
- Magnetic emergency beacon
- Two foil blankets
- Warning triangle
- Tourniquet
- Whistle
Built for real incidents
The pack can be ordered from farmpacks.co.uk for £119.99 (including VAT), with shipping to the UK. Mr Parrott explained that the company is still taking feedback on ways to improve the offering, with a focus on using high-quality, commercial-grade products.
“It’s a learning experience, because farming is such a unique industry,” he said. “We added the tourniquet after initial feedback, because if you’re alone in the middle of a field, that can be the difference between life and death.”
It is also possible to replace individual components within the packs if necessary, so the fire extinguisher could be replaced if it was used, without purchasing a new pack. Mr Parrott added that the company is open to fleet enquiries for larger operations with multiple machines.
