Steyr makes its entrance into the high-horsepower market with the Cervus CVT range, topped by the 6440 which has an output of 435hp. The engine includes a variable pitch cooling fan, directly connected to the hydraulics, with constant monitoring of the fan blade angle to make automatic adjustments based on the cooling requirements.
The fan can also be reversed, cleaning the cooling package. Intervals for this can be stored in the display or activated by the operator.
The S-Control transmission has four mechanical ranges, with double clutches to improve shifting. Additional features include Active Hold Control to stop the machine on a hill without applying the brake, and an exhaust brake which increases braking power to 367hp at 2,300rpm.
It features front axle suspension with 250mm of travel, automatic adjustment to the load and roll control and anti-pitch functionality for stability at high speeds. The S-Brake system uses the trailer brakes to further improve safety and stability when towing.
For the cabin, a new hydraulic cab suspension has been fitted, with added functionality to adjust damping in real time using an accelerometer. This controls cab movement and reportedly reduces vibrations by 20%. Central tyre inflation is also available, using a twin cylinder 630 cu m compressor.
