The Leen farm will make history this summer being the first autumn block grazed herd to host the Gold Cup Open Day on Thursday 14 June.

Brothers Rich and Chris will reveal the fundamentals behind their success through a series of talks from speakers who have been influential in their achievements which led to them winning the 2017 Gold Cup award.

With the overall theme focusing on strategic success with an autumn block grazing system, talks will reveal how the brothers look at their business structure to identify and develop opportunities linked not only to the dairy unit but the farms other enterprises.  The Andersons Centre Tony Evans will also explain the importance of succession planning and role of governance in the farms success.

Further sessions delivered by LIC and Real Success will look at the factors driving business performance and staff management and motivation; outlining the key factors determining your team’s success.  The Wye and Usk Foundation will highlight the importance of aligning and linking your farm with the environment and the benefits this could have for both the farm and wildlife.

Key enterprises, such as the dairy, broiler unit and anaerobic digester will be “interactive” stations, manned throughout the day by their respective managers and industry suppliers, readily equipped for any queries.  Additional “points of interest” will be clearly signed and will include the parlour, cows, young stock, winter feed and summer feed; these areas will be accompanied by information boards that outline their key facts.

Rich Norman says he hopes they are able to demonstrate how success is possible for all herd types and hopes the day will attract visitors from far and wide, from the whole range of dairy systems.

He says:  “We are thrilled to be in this position and look forward to sharing some of our practises with visitors through specialist speakers who are integral to our business and its success.

“We have a great programme lined up and hope visitors will make the most of the day by looking around the farm, its dairy unit, our broiler unit and anaerobic digester.

“Above all we hope we are able to provide some key take home points that people can apply to their own businesses and equally, look forward to learning some new ideas ourselves too.”

HSBC are principal sponsor of the day whilst Kite Consulting will provide free bacon rolls on arrival for all pre-registered visitors.  Further information, including the full programme of events are available at www.rabdf.co.uk/gold-cup-open-day  Pre-registration is essential and can be done online using the previous link.  If you have any queries please call the office on 02476 639317.
