Aura: the autonomous diet feeder from Kuhn

Kuhn has just launched its new compact self-propelled, autonomous diet feeder, capable of feeding 280 cows.

The 2.6m-tall, 1.9m-wide and under 7m-long Aura feeder uses GPS, Real-Time Kinematic (RTK), and Lidar to move around the farm, collecting and feeding Total Mixed Rations (TMR). WIFI devices can be installed and the time and frequency of feeding can be precisely set remotely and as frequently as needed.

Inbuilt loading and weighing modules, within the Aura’s 3m³ mixing tank, calculate the exact mix of forage materials to the nearest kilo. The tank also features two vertical augers that have a low power requirement and include Kuhn’s K-NOX technology. Plus, mixing and chopping speeds can also be adjusted.

Farms using the AURA will also be fitted with augers connected to silos containing concentrates and minerals that have a receiver to communicate with the AURA’s onboard transmitter.

A 56hp (42kW) diesel engine powers the Aura, for travelling speeds of up to 7km/h, while it feeds out at a speed of 2km/h. Feeding is performed by a conveyor on both the left and right sides of the machine and rotating brushes (also on the left and right) both push forage up and double as clamp cleaners for any fallen material.

The Aura will initially be available in France and then countries throughout Europe. It is expected to be available in the UK in 2024/25.
