McHale revamps fixed chamber baler range

Lamma saw a new baler launched on the McHale stand. The F5 range features four models, replacing the popular F550 and F5000 series.

The range starts with the F5-540, with no chopper fitted, moving on to the F5-550, which is predicted to be the most popular model. This is fitted with a 15-knife chopper unit and is semi-automatic.

Fully automatic operation is possible with the F5-560, which also features a 25-knife chopping unit, while the flagship F5-560 Plus adds film-on-film binding.

All models feature the new Profi-Flow pick-up, designed to increase crop flow. It’s fed by a tapered channel to drive crop into the pick-up and features an uprated driveline to minimise chain load.

The Profi-Flo is available either as a five-tine bar cam unit, or with the optional six-tine bar camless pick-up. The company has also introduced Adaptive Intake, which automatically adjusts to the volume of crop and reduces the chance of blockages.

Martin McHale, McHale marketing & sales director, said: “The new F5 range has focused on higher output and comfort for the operator. There is a significant increase in throughput thanks to the new Profi-Flo pick-up along with higher bale density and overall machine performance.

“The design team have also enhanced the baling experience for the operator using the new i-Control 5 console or ISOBUS options are now available.”

A 540rpm gearbox is fitted as standard, with a 1,000rpm unit available as an option. This increases the PTO speed and adds extra torque to reduce peaks on the driveline. When the 1,000rpm system is fitted, operators can switch back to 540rpm for easier restarts if blockages are unlikely.

    Additional options

Looking specifically at the F5-550, the binding system has been developed further to cope with higher-density bales, with a dual feed netting system to boost the tension of the net. When Isobus is specified, this system can be adjusted from the cabin.

Bale density can also be adjusted from the cab, using the i-Control 5 console, which enables users to change the density on a 1-10 scale. The size of the bale can also be changed, running from 1.25m up to 1.3m.

Isobus compatibility is an option on the F5-550, but standard on the F5-560 and F5-560 Plus. When Isobus is fitted, operators also gain access to Auto Unblock, automatic dropfloor reset and full automation of the chopping system.

John Biggins, McHale international sales manager concludes: “The new Profi-Flo pick-up delivers a greatly improved intake which increases capacity. Customers are really pleased with the option of a 1000 rpm gearbox.

“The i-Control 5 console and offering ISOBUS, if preferred, has also made the whole baling experience easier and more enjoyable for operators from a driving and maintenance perspective.”
