Spread-a-Bale launches new high performance spreader

At the Royal Highland Show, Spread-a-Bale extended its M range of straw spreading machines for the largest and most challenging bales.

The Mega includes the company’s standard features, including double-acting two-way spool connection, with no low pressure return, as well as heavy-duty motors and a high-flow hydraulic manifold with 3/4in pipes.

It adds Hardox wear plates at the front and 1.3m high rotors, with the capacity to spread bales up to 1.8m in diameter. There is also the option of an XL body to accommodate large square bales up to 2.8m long.

The rotors deliver an arc pattern up to 9m, while the machine requires a loader or telehandler with a 3t lift capacity.

Spread-a-Bale’s Michael Hughes says: “We are pleased to add to our M portfolio of machines the Mega and it’s big, appealing to farmers, particular those operating on a larger scale, to fully utilise their largest bales. Furthermore, we’ve added the HD, HF and bigger hoses to this one, single machine to provide unmatched power enabling it to spread the hardest, compacted bales.”

He continues: “The Mega requires just one materials handler and is able to load one bale in approximately one minute followed by a further minute to discharge and spread thereby demonstrating improved efficiency in terms of systems, labour and diesel usage and like all Spread-a-Bale models, it’s noted for helping farmers to make their straw go further with minimal dust.”
