    Grimme introduces new haulm topper

Built in Germany, Grimme will launch the Toppa 600 in time for the 2024 harvest. It’s said to be the first folding haulm topper built in the country, with dual two-row toppers at the rear and a two-row topper at the front.

It’s designed to fit the UK’s 90cm rows and features hydraulic depth control, a floating frame to follow contours and a specially designed blade configuration to chop and blow haulm from the bottom of the row.

Grimme states that just 140hp is required to run the unit, which has the functionality to lift each of the rear machines for part-width topping. The company is also offering the option of automatic row-finding feeler arms to help eliminate scalping.

The Toppa 600 will be available with 0% finance and a five-year warranty. Ed Hodson, potato specialist for the company, said: “Our UK range of haulm toppers have always been a popular choice and have performed exceptionally well, but by having our German factory oversee production, we are now better placed to take advantage of the incredible amount of research and development that is undertaken in Damme.

“We have several pre-production Toppa 600s for order, and as this particular model offers several unique features, we expect them to sell quickly as growers seek the ideal combination of features, performance and price. GRIMME has also taken into account the pressures currently faced by growers and is offering the Toppa 600 with interest-free payment options.

“The Toppa 600 took pride of place at the British Potato Show in November, and everyone who saw it was impressed with what it has to offer.”

A four-row variant and a larger eight-row machine are expected to join the range later in the year. For more information go to www.grimme.co.uk
