Claas adds new telehandlers to the range

Five new models have been introduced to the Claas Scorpion telehandler range, designed to deliver up to 300kg greater lift capacity and greater stability thanks to the 100mm increased wheelbase and adjusted counterweight.

The machines also benefit from the Smart Loading package thanks to the new hydraulic controls and electronic pilot control. These include:

    • Automatic bucket return to the previously saved position
    • Automatic bucket shake function
    • · Automatic retraction of the telescopic arm (not for Scorpion 1033)

Power comes from a 143hp, 550Nm Liebherr engine, while the hydraulic output tops out at 160 litres/min at 1,600rpm.

During loading, the Dynamic Power system automatically adjusts the engine speed to the joystick angle, resulting in the desired lift and loading speed.

All models are fitted as standard with the VariPower 2 hydrostatic transmission, brought across from the Jaguar forager range. The VariPower 3 is also optionally available for the 738 and 742 machines, fitted with a larger dual hydraulic motor to transfer up to 68kN of tractive force to the wheels.

    Cab ergonomics

The cabin for the Scorpion 733-742 has received a makeover, with an external safety guard and partially glazed access door which swings through 180deg.

New compartments and cargo nets provide storage space on the inside of the door, and sound insulation in the door has been increased to reduce noise levels.

The steering column has been redesigned to improve access and create more footroom. The height and angle can be adjusted, while the display is now mounted above the steering wheel to make it easier to read.

Additionally, the brake/inch pedal has now been suspended and fitted with a larger tread area.

To the right of the steering wheel, the 3.5in colour screen can be upgraded to a 7in monitor and has a smartphone shelf mounted in front of it. Further improving comfort is the updated air conditioning and heating unit, which can be adjusted infinitely instead of incrementally.

The joystick has been moved to the right of the seat, along with other key functions including the controller for the speed ranges.

Finally, an extra LED headlight on the A-pillar has a Coming Home function. This is pressed once before parking, which activates the light for 60 seconds. At the rear light bracket, a pressure relief control panel has been mounted.
