4,000 years of woodland technology to go on display at APF

The APF Exhibition, taking place from the 19th to the 21st of September, will provide visitors the opportunity to see 4,000 years of woodland equipment.

There will be the opportunity to see a dug-out canoe made using just a log, fire and axes, while traditional construction skills will be on display with the production of oak beams using adzes and handsaws.

Horse logging teams will also be in action, and visitors will have the opportunity to control a timber horse.

As chainsaw technology was introduced in the 1940s and 50s, they replaced axes and crosscut saws. The show will have a wide array of vintage examples, as well as new models and the chance to test the latest chainsaw simulators.

Simulations will also be available for the latest harvesting equipment.

Looking to the future, drone technology will be demonstrated, which can be used to apply insecticides or spread fertilisers on inaccessible woodland.

Advance tickets are priced at £22.50, increasing to £25 on the day. Children under 16 are admitted for free. For more information go to www.apfexhibition.co.uk
