World’s first spring green harvester to go on show in Lancashire

While Lamma might be the place for machinery launches, just a week after the event Grimme will showcase the first spring green harvester at the UK Vegetable Products Open Day on the 18th of January, hosted at the Malpas Tractors Lathom branch.

The Spring Green Harvester (PO-335-SG) is said to be the first-ever mechanised solution for harvesting spring greens. It uses some of the Asa-Lift PO-335 leek harvester technology to ensure gentle handling.

A side-mounted machine, it cuts in a single row and presents the crop onto an inspection belt before landing them in boxes via a side elevator. As standard, it features automatic height control and an inspection table, which can be adjusted for different crops. It’s also possible to unload on the move via a hydraulic elevator.

“Until now, if someone wanted to harvest spring greens, they would have to employ people to do so by hand,” said Rob Wilkinson, vegetable product specialist at Grimme UK. “Now, thanks to Grimme’s ingenuity, growers can reduce their labour costs and the time needed to harvest. We think the PO-335-SG will attract a lot of interest, and we’re really looking forward to showing it to people at our January Open Day.”

The event runs from 3pm to 8pm on the 18th of January. Orders are now open for the Spring Green Harvester, with deliveries expected ahead of the 2023 harvest.
