New customer support team manager at Michelin

Michelin has appointed Carl Williams to the role of customer engineering support team manager for the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Mr Williams takes on the role following the retirement of Rob Blurton, who has spent 44 years with the company and will lead a team of technical managers across all product lines.

Mr Williams has been with the company for 36 years, originally joining in 1987 on a Youth Training Scheme Modern Apprenticeship and holding roles including regional fleet account manager, external training instructor and training centre manager. The last three years were spent as Beyond Road regional sales manager.

His time with the company has also seen him work abroad, including a fortnight on secondment in Tanzania with the international development organisation Transaid. Here, he worked with professional driver trainers in the bus and truck sector to highlight how better tyres meant safer roads, which led to fewer casualties.

Commenting on the new role, Mr Williams said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead, and the opportunity to work with our Technical Managers across all areas of the business, from two-wheel and four-wheel B2C, to our on-road and off-road B2B fleets.

“In many ways, this is my dream job within Michelin. I get to support all product lines, lead a fantastic team, and put my three and a half decades of experience with the company to best use.”

His predecessor, Mr Blurton, joined the company when he was 18 as a direct-entry technician apprentice at the company’s Stoke on Trent factory, and had spent the last five years heading up the technical team.
