New tech limits fertiliser use with Amazone Precea air drills

At its pre-Agritechnica launch event, Amazone based all of its product updates around new technology, including a focus on fertiliser use with precision planters

Linking back to the company’s technology range, we were given an overview of the Precea pneumatic seeders. This started with a rundown of the existing technology, which includes single row shut off for both seed and fertiliser, as well as FertiSpot, which delivers a dose of fertiliser in the rooting zone of each plant. New for this year is the option to use FertiSpot to place fertiliser between two plants, to protect fine-rooting crops.

There is also CurveControl. Similar to systems seen on sprayers with pulse width modulation (PWM), it automatically adjusts the application of seed and fertiliser during cornering, applying different rates at each end of the planter to avoid over- or under-application.

From next spring, Amazone will also offer SynCrop, which synchronises the seed and fertiliser application to enable sowing in either a triangular or block formation. According to the company, this will maximise the distance between plants and increase the availability of nutrients, sunlight, water and air.

There were some mechanical updates to the Precea range, including a new 4.5m 4500-2AFCC for those on CTF systems, with a Rotamix KE4502-2-300 mounted at the front. Further up the range, a new trailed 7.5m 7500-TCC model has been introduced, available with an 850-litre Central Seed Supply hopper or individual 70-litre hoppers above the coulters, both in addition to a 3,000-litre fertiliser tank.

New options include leading star cleaners to remove straw residues, with either manual or pneumatic adjustment.
