Bale weighing technology on the FBP and VBP ranges will help farmers and contractors monitor production accurately, according to Kuhn

Kuhn Farm Machinery has announced a series of technological updates to its range of forage and straw baling equipment, designed to improve operator control of product quality and operational efficiency.

The company’s VB variable chamber balers and VBP BalePack variable chamber baler-wrapper combinations are now available with the option of a humidity sensor. This can measure moisture composition in the forage to a level of 40%, providing a way to monitor crop suitability and hit a target dry matter content. It’s available on all models within these two ranges from 2021, as well as a retrofit option for machines going forward.

The VB and VBP BalePack models come equipped with Kuhn’s progressive density baling chambers and are suitable for handling a range of wet and dry crops. Since 2020, VBP BalePack units have been available with a film-binding system as an alternative to net binding.

Humidity sensors are now available as an option of variable chamber balers and baler-wrappers allowing monitoring and greater levels of control over dry matter in forage.

    Bale weighing for production monitoring

On FBP BalePack and VBP BalePack combination machines, a bale weighing system will now be available as an option. Mounted on the wrapping table, this technology weighs each bale and provides a rolling average of the previous three bales, making it possible to estimate the total production of forage or straw.

    Intake control

Large square balers have not missed out on updates, with SB units now featuring an adapted pick-up unit and a larger bale channel to increase the consistency of bale density.

Adaptions throughout the SB large square baler range have been made for a more even crop flow and more consistent bale density

A new power feed roller follows the height of the swath and the overall tine-to-tine width within the pick-up has been increased, this has been done to reduce peaks in power demand as the crop reaches the rotor and reduces the risk of blockages.

At the rear, the bale channel length is now 375cm and includes nine cylinders. This ensures a consistency in bale density, particularly when operating in very dry material.
