New features will be on show at the 2022 Cereals event, including Crop to Kitchen which will showcase arable farmers selling direct to consumers.

As farmers seek new ways to generate income as Basic Payment Scheme payments decline, Crop to Kitchen will explore how growers are seeing the opportunities in using redundant farm buildings and crop diversification, says Cereals event director Ali McEntyre.

Ms McEntyre added that, with the Crop to Kitchen feature, “farmers will be able to talk to other farmers with experience of selling directly to consumers. Products featured include quinoa, mushrooms, rhubarb, oilseed rape oil, wine, juices, heritage wheat, flour, and beer.”

Winter wheat and barley growers will also be able to compare varieties at Cereals. As the arable project manager Jonathon Backhouse, alongside exhibitors, has curated a spread of 26 popular winter wheats that includes representation from every breeder on the AHDB RL, and representatives of the winter wheat Groups one to four. This feature will also showcase 14 winter barleys, with popular picks from all breeders to represent malting, two-row feed and six-row hybrid varieties.

Machinery and kit that qualifies for the Improving Farm Productivity grant scheme will also be showcased at Cereals, from the event’s designated demo area.

Join the Direct Drill Arena for its inaugural year at Cereals, expanded for 2022 to include a full arena with amplified AV and presentation. Demonstrators will showcase and discuss the benefits of their technology and offer sustainable solutions for farmers. Aitchison, Amazone, Claydon, Horizon, Horsch, John Deere, Kuhn and Mzuri will be among the exhibitors demonstrating.

There will also be many regular features returning for 2022, such as the crop plots and working demo plots. After a successful debut last year, the NAAC Drainage Hub will be bringing together leading agricultural contractors with land drainage expertise, plus presentations, video demos, and drainage equipment, to support farmers with the topic of drainage.

Around the event there will numerous exhibitors on hand to answer visitor questions, with post-harvest technology and the latest crop protection and nutrition products on show, to name but a few.

“At this time of transition for farmers, Cereals offers an ideal one-stop-shop to see all the latest innovation in action so that arable farmers can get a real flavour of what technology will be most suited to their farm,” says Ms McEntyre.
