Case announces upgrades to its fixed chamber baler

Case IH has introduced an updated version of its RB 344 fixed chamber round baler, producing 120cm x 125cm bales and available in both Rotor Feeder and Rotor Cutter versions.

Michal Jankowski, Case IH product marketing manager, said: “The RB 344 has gained a very strong following throughout Europe because of its ability to produce dense, perfectly formed 120cm x 125cm bales in all crop conditions. Farmers also appreciate its ease of operation, versatility, reliability, durability and low maintenance costs.”

“The new version of this very popular, highly effective baler has a modern, visually striking design in keeping with other Case IH products. We have two models, the RB 344 F Rotor Feeder and RB 344 R Rotor Cutter, which are available from Case IH dealers right now. Both are very efficient and work comfortably behind tractors of less than 80hp.”

A new side shield is the most obvious design change, with a robust metal frame, top hinges and gas strut supports. It opens wide for easy access and also protects spare netwrap rolls. Rubber bumpers on both sides of the tailgate frame ensure that it closes smoothly and quietly, while the wiring harness runs inside the bull bar. Front lights have also been repositioned.

Under the panelling, the stripper roll, bale chamber, floor and pick-up are now driven by uprated drive chains with chromized pins and hardened plates for a longer life cycle and reduced maintenance costs. The bearings which support these have also been upgraded with efficient seals to prevent dust ingress.

The 2m pick-up is equipped with closely spaced steel tines and long pick-up guards, which are painted red to make them more visible. These changes are said to maximise intake capacity so that even heavy swaths can be handled without losses. The Duckbill feeding system ensures a reliable net start in all conditions, while the density control system ensures that bales are formed to the driver’s specification.

The company has also incorporated the proven Hydraulic Rotor Reverser as a factory-fit option for Rotor Feeder models. This uses a free-run clutch for quick and easy reversing to clear blockages without leaving the cabin.

For greater versatility, the Rotor Cutter model features 15 electrically selected knives to evenly cut the crop. Across the range, the slat-chain chamber system ensures a positive start to bale formation in all crop conditions.
