Case IH has launched a new large square baler: the LB 424 XLD. The ‘D’ in the name stands for density due to the 260cm length bales being up to 10% heavier than those from the existing LB 424 XL (which remains on offer).
Michael Jankowski, product marketing manager from Case IH, said: “The new model will appeal to customers who need extra-dense, well-shaped, consistent and durable large square bales for maximum output, perfect handling, lower transport costs and optimum use of storage space.”
The denser bales are mainly thanks to the LB 424 XLD’s reinforced plunger which provides 400kN of compression force, a 27% increase over the LB 424 XL. Its design incorporates strong, perpendicular V-shaped support beams made from 33% thicker 8mm steel, together with four sectional reinforcement plates instead of two.
Strong design
The LB 424 XLD’s hardwearing design is versatile enough to operate in all combinable crops and is equipped with reinforced baler chamber side doors which are twice as stiff as those on the previous model. In addition, the top door and top door density beams are stronger and more rigid, while the front and floor sections of the bale chamber are constructed of durable Hardox® steel wear plates.
Two larger hydraulic density cylinders of 140mm in diameter, exerting 113% more force on the side doors, are a further design addition. The larger hydraulic cylinders also increase the force on the top doors by 25% – adding two additional density levers provides more force to ensure an even compression of the forming bale.
Similar to the LB 424 XL, the new product improves productivity by allowing auto adjustment of the tractor’s speed by the ‘Feedrate Control’ option, as well as recording bale weight, volume and moisture data through the company’s own AFS ConnectTM technology. Both designs feature the TwineProTM knotter which eliminates twine offcuts and avoids feed contamination, as well as maintenance-friendly features such as automatic greasing, centralised lubrication and storage for 32 twine balls.
Full range
The LB 424 XLD is the fifth large square baler in the Case IH range. Both this product and the LB 424 XL are available in Packer and Rotor Cutter versions. They fit neatly between the 80cm x 70cm LB 324 XL, which is available only in Packer Cutter form, and the 80cm x 90cm LB 334 XL, which comes in Packer, Packer Cutter, or Rotor Cutter versions, together with the largest 120cm x 90cm LB 434 XL Packer and Rotor Cutter models.
