KRM offers broad range of tine drills to suit different farming systems

KRM has a broad portfolio of tine drills, designed to suit all budgets, tramlines and available horsepower. The company states that choosing the right coulter option is key to establishment, and offers three different coulters to suit different farming systems.

    • The Elite tine is bests suited to plough-based systems
    • The PT is designed for tougher, minimum tillage seedbeds
    • The SM coulter, designed for direct drilling

These coulters are available for two ranges of drills; the Ares/SM which are available with a simple land wheel drive, and the Ares-P/SM-P, which features pressurised hoppers and full ISOBUS control.

The company recently introduced the Electra metering system, fitted as standard to Ares-P and SM-P machines, which enables the operator to set the desired seeding rate from a single calibration.

It uses the drill’s hydraulic fan to deliver seed to a container to be weighed, the results of which are entered into the ISOBUS controller. The ISOBUS system can also be used for variable rate applications, automatic shutoff, half-width shutoff and section control, and all standard drill functions.

According to the company, the pressurised hopper ensures an even seed flow to the metering unit, while the external distribution heads leave the hopper unobstructed during filling and cleaning.

When using SM coulters, the narrow tungsten carbide tine runs at an attacking angle to pull the tip into work. Each unit creates a tilth as it pulls through the soil while moving straw and other residues away from the row. The undisturbed soil around the seeding zone limits the germination of weeds and leaves a firm surface for following passes.

Following its success on SM1909 and SM-P drills, KRM now offers the SM coulter on a mounted 3m box drill. The SD3115 is an economical machine, designed for smaller farms and lower horsepower tractors.

As interest in mechanical weeding grows and operators establish cereals at wider row spacings, KRM are now offering the SM-P 6m machine (traditionally fitted with 37 rows) as a 24-row machine, offering row spacings of 25cm. Starting prices for the 6m SM-P start from £59,180.
