Tractor of the Year 2025: TotY Utility – Steyr 4120 Plus

The Plus product range was originally launched in 1967 and was reportedly the first direct injection tractor on the market, going on to be the best selling Steyr tractor. Paying homage to this legacy, the company has reintroduced the model name, superseding the Kompakt range.

Sitting at the top of the Plus series is the 4120, providing 117hp and 506Nm of torque, put to the ground through the S-Control 2 Hi/Lo transmission with 24 gears in forward and reverse.

Updates over the previous range include a 30% increase in hydraulic output, providing 82 litres/min, and 7% greater lift capacity at the rear, rated at 4,700kg.

The maximum gross vehicle weight has also been increased by 500kg to 7,000kg, making the 4120 Plus more suitable for intensive applications and transport.

There are further options to increase the versatility of the machine. The front axle is available in a 1.0HD or 1.5HD specification, with the latter better suited to front loader work and heavier front implements. A new electronic front hitch and PTO can also be fitted, able to maintain a consistent ground pressure.

A series of technologies have also been brought down from larger tractors in the Steyr portfolio, including Adaptive Steering to reduce the lock-to-lock turns, clutchless braking and a series of integrated precision farming systems, including telematics and the FieldOps application.
