Tractor of the Year – Open Field: Valtra Q305

Topping out the new Q Series range from Valtra, the Q305 is powered by a 305hp AGCO Power engine, with a maximum torque rating of 1,280Nm available between 1,000rpm and 1,500rpm. The gearbox comes from AGCO, replacing Valtra’s own Direct CVT transmission, offering a 50kph top speed, with electronic control maintaining the lowest possible engine speed.

Notably, the company states that power is nearly 100% mechanical when travelling at road speeds, offering enhanced acceleration. Pneumatic front axle and cab suspension are included, with the Aires system working in combination with the long wheelbase and said to increase grip with the ground, pulling force and lead to a reduction in power hopping.

The hydraulic system comes with an optional Eco mode, producing 200 litres per minute at just 1,600rpm (instead of 1,950rpm as standard). At the rear, the three-point hitch lifts 10,000kg, while the front linkage has a 4,800kg capacity.

The total gross weight for the tractor is 16,000kg, up from an unladen weight of 9,200kg, enabling a high payload for the machine despite its compact dimensions. The low height and long wheelbase also ensure high stability.

The Q Series comes as standard with the SmartTouch interface initially launched on the N Series tractors. This smartphone-style terminal gives access to the company’s range of precision farming systems, including ISOBUS, GPS guidance, section control and variable rate. This is as well as the company’s telematics and monitoring service for proactive maintenance and machine security.

It can also be put through the Valtra Unlimited studio for a wide range of specialist options, including central lubrication to minimise maintenance, as well as the possibility to fit a central tyre inflation system.
