Demand for boneless cuts drives increase in beef exports to France

UK beef exports to France increased in 2013 despite challenging global trading conditions, according to latest figures from EBLEX.

Export volumes to France rose eight per cent on the year to 11,350 tonnes, with the value of those exports up 11 per cent, largely driven by increased shipments of boneless product.

The news came as EBLEX showcased Quality Standard beef and lamb at the SIA International Agricultural Show in Paris where delegates, including importers, wholesalers, retailers and butchers had the chance to sample beef and lamb steaks cooked by chef Gilles Vallée.

The EBLEX stand also featured quality livestock and a meat display for retail and foodservice and provided an opportunity for delegates to meet with EBLEX staff and discuss key industry issues. Videos also highlighted production systems, product development and recipes.

Rémi Fourrier, EBLEX export manager in France, said: “SIA is a shop window for our industry to highlight Quality Standard beef and lamb to the widest possible audience. We have put a lot of effort into positioning Quality Standard beef as a premium product in the French market and will continue to do so. The opportunity for delegates to sample recipes was particularly poignant this year for beef, given the latest UK export figures to France, which are very encouraging.”
