Flurry of activity for UK beef and lamb in Hong Kong and Macau

A delegation from EBLEX, together with four meat exporters from England, will be supporting UKTI’s GREAT Week in Hong Kong and Macau this month.

GREAT Week, which takes place from 10 to 14 March, includes a series of events such as trade receptions, business meetings and briefings as part of a Government-led trade mission. Alongside the UKTI events, a beef promotion will take place in selected restaurants in Hong Kong and a retail promotion will take place in a high-end food store.

In a separate development, the authorities in Macau have given the green light for imports of beef and lamb from the UK. The announcement is the result of the collaboration between Defra, UKTI and EBLEX over recent months and opens Macau’s important gastronomy sector to UK beef. The government of the territory is keen to strengthen the food and drink offering available to Macau’s 27 million tourists.

EBLEX export manager J P Garnier said: “Following our significant presence at food shows in Hong Kong in 2013, this represents a new step to develop sales of our products in the two territories and get consumers enthused about the high quality of the meat on offer.

“Hong Kong and Macau are key premium markets not only for beef but also for lamb, processed meats and even offal. This is why EBLEX, in collaboration with UKTI, is investing a significant amount of resource in opening these markets.”
