    Help calves breathe more easily

A new feed supplement from Trouw Nutrition GB can help calves breath more easily while helping to support the immune system.

“Farm-O-San Pulmosure is a complementary feed for calves designed to be mixed with feed or top-dressed on it,” comments Farm-O-San Product Manager, Matthew Stott. “Containing eucalyptus oil along with a natural form of vitamin E and organically bound selenium, it serves two key functions. While the eucalyptus oil helps clear the airways and allows animals to breathe more easily, the other ingredients help support the calf’s immune system.”

Farmers are heading into the time of year when calves are at greater risk from the conditions that can make them more prone to respiratory problems, particularly pneumonia, but sensible management including better ventilation, provision of clean, dry bedding and reducing stress can help alleviate the risk.

Mr Stott suggests there can also be benefits from feeding supplements that help calves maintain normal respiration. He says the use of essential oils, particularly eucalyptus oil, is well known to be beneficial in clearing the airways, and facilitating easy breathing in both humans and animals alike.

Pulmosure can be quickly and easily fed to a whole group of calves at one time, so benefitting all the animals in the group. The recommended feeding duration is 1-3 weeks.
