P&G Pet Care announces strategic cooperation with detailing Eukanuba and Iams to vets in the UK and Ireland

Procter & Gamble Pet Care (P&G) has announced a strategic cooperation with the Novartis Animal Health (NAH) business. Beginning on April 1, 2014 in the UK and on July 1, 2014 in Ireland, the NAH sales team will detail the full range of P&G’s Eukanuba and Iams branded pet nutrition products to vets with a focus on Eukanuba Veterinary Diets (EVD) and the Eukanuba Puppy range.

The collaboration brings together two highly complementary line-ups in key canine and feline health and performance areas, both in terms of veterinary medicines and therapeutic diets. Each organization brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as experts in their own field. NAH offers best-in-class therapeutic brands for optimal healthcare solutions that contribute to the quality of life, health and welfare of animals. And P&G Pet Care Brand’s 60-year history of innovation establishes it as a pioneer in the market for high performance and science-based premium pet nutrition.

Hounaida Lasry, Vice President – P&G Pet Care Europe, Middle East, Africa & Asia, explained: “Novartis Animal Health and P&G Pet Care share a common mission – to improve the well-being of cats and dogs and enable them to enjoy health for life. As two innovation leaders working together, we are proud to be supporting vets to further enhance the care they provide to their clients and patients.”

The cooperation will enable vets to expand their disease management options and offer appropriate tailored products for cats or dogs they are treating, whether in relation to a specific ailment or simple diet change for enhanced day-to-day living. Additionally, NAH is a leader in pet health areas in which P&G’s Eukanuba Veterinary Diets have acknowledged strong clinical formulations: specifically dermatology, nephrology, orthopaedics and cardiac conditions. Together, this offers vets a truly holistic portfolio in key canine and feline health areas and a multimodal approach to pet health care.

Dr Penny Watson, Senior Lecturer of Small Animal Medicine at the University of Cambridge, commented: “Clinical nutrition plays a key role in patient management and is an important complement to medicine in order to achieve a successful outcome. This combination of Eukanuba Veterinary Diets and Novartis Animal Health’s products helps highlight the importance of dispensing clinical diets as part of a multimodal approach to effective patient management. Additionally, high quality nutrition is also recommended by vets as part of a normal day-to-day healthy lifestyle.”

The cooperation will be launched at the BSAVA Congress taking place from April 3-6, 2014 in Birmingham, UK. The two companies will have a joint presence at the event, which offers a perfect stage to showcase the strength and versatility of the combined NAH and P&G Pet Care portfolio to the veterinary community.
