ADAS and Premium Crops launch online YEN network for linseed

A new online-only Yield Enhancement Network (YEN) for linseed growers has been launched, with key funding from Premium Crops.

The idea behind Linseed YEN Lite is to give growers a simplified way to measure and track their crop performance throughout the year.

Nigel Padbury, sales and marketing manager at Premium Crops, said “Attracted by the concept of YEN to support and energise on-farm learning-by-sharing, Premium Crops have been proud sponsors for the Oilseeds YEN for several years.

“By supporting the development of Linseed YEN Lite we are aiming to enable linseed growers to access the same YEN benefits more easily and at a more affordable cost.”

Instead of requiring growers to collect crop and soil samples, this new system will ask users to input soil descriptions and summaries of agronomic decisions taken throughout the year.

ADAS researchers will then supplement this data with weather, agronomy and soil data for the grower’s locality.

Ben Hague, ADAS crop research consultant and project lead for Linseed YEN Lite, explained: “We want our yield enhancement networks to be accessible to as many growers as possible, so we launched this YEN Lite to offer linseed growers a quick and simple way to understand their crop performance, with a focus on optimising agronomy.”

Post-harvest, members will receive a bespoke report detailing how their crop compares to the linseed crops of other members, based on 30 different factors.

A limited number of sponsored places are available, with independent places costing £150 + VAT.
