LimeX appoints new technical sales manager

British Sugar has announced that Emily Whitemarsh will join the LimeX team as technical sales manager, servicing customers outside of the beet-growing area.

LimeX is the most widely used liming product in the UK and is a byproduct of the sugar refining process. It also offers additional plant nutrients, with a typical tonne of LimeX containing 9kg of phosphate, 8kg of magnesium and 6kg of sulphur.

Emily comes from a farming background and has previously completed placements at BASF, Greenvale and CFUK following her graduation from Harper Adams University. Before joining the LimeX team, she spent a few years running a 1,000-sow outdoor breeding unit with her partner near Bury St Edmunds.

“Friends on the MDS programme had spoken highly of British Sugar as a company to work for,” she said. “They are a big part of the agricultural industry in our area, and the role is a great opportunity to contribute to that by working with their customers.”

“pH is fundamental to soil health, which is a major focus for the industry. LimeX is a great product, and I’m looking forward to developing its opportunities in areas not traditionally associated with sugar beet.”

Glenn Carlisle, LimeX’s national business manager, added: “Emily is a great addition to the LimeX team. Her appointment builds on our plans to expand LimeX sales beyond the beet-growing area.

“We already have a loyal customer base among vegetable brassica growers as far afield as Cornwall, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Emily will support these farmers and develop opportunities in the broadacre arable and grassland markets.”
