Severn Trent to offer low drift spray nozzles and training this winter

In a series of upcoming workshops, Severn Trent will discuss improving spray efficiencies with farmers, as well as sending out a free set of low drift nozzles to every person who attends.

Running from December to January, the Swap Your Nozzles webinars will help those in priority catchments to reduce spray drift and minimise the risk of chemicals reaching watercourses.

Dr Adam Freer, senior catchment scientist at Severn Trent, explained that farmers will then be able to choose between LERAP 3* or 4* nozzles and caps from a list of options, as well as receiving one NRoSO or two BASIS CPD points.

Chris Tolley, an independent agronomist, farmer and consultant will lead the webinars, covering topics from legislation, Local Environment Risk Assessments for Pesticides (LERAP) and buffer zones, to nozzle selection and application considerations.

“We hope that farmers will walk away from the workshops with tools to not only improve spray efficiency, but also improve farm profitability,” said Dr Freer.

He added that managing spray drift is one of the most straightforward ways to prevent chemicals from reaching watercourses, while also reducing input costs and widening the potential spray window.

The webinars are available to all growers in the Severn Trent pesticide priority catchments and will take place on:

    • Monday 8th January 2024- 6.30pm – 8.30pm
    • Friday 12th January 2024- 9.30am – 12pm
