Leading machinery and fuel supplier, Carr’s Billington, has announced that it has converted its mill fleet of 56 vehicles to to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel.

It’s said to be a major step towards its sustainability goals, with the fuel offering up to 82% reduced carbon emissions compared to traditional diesel.

“During a trial period and following data collected by Carr’s Billington, we have seen a reduction in carbon emissions and our fuel efficiency increase.” said Sébastien Potts, strategic projects director.

“Carr’s Billington is dedicated to leading the way in sustainable practices. By converting our entire mill fleet to HVO fuel, we are not only reducing our carbon emissions but also supporting the wider adoption of renewable energy sources. This is a crucial step in our journey towards a more sustainable future.”

Sam Thompson, head of sustainability added: “The transition to HVO across our feed delivery fleet is a major step forward in driving a more sustainable future for our business and playing our part within UK agriculture reducing emissions.

“We are committed to supporting our customers by providing more sustainable products and advice and helping reduce on farm emissions.”

The company adds that the switch will also result in operational benefits, as HVO can be used within existing vehicles and machinery without the need for additional infrastructure.

The decision comes as Carr’s Billington Fuels celebrates nationwide availability of HVO fuel for 2025.

“Bringing HVO fuel to customers across the entire UK aligns with our commitment to sustainability and provides an excellent opportunity for growth,” said Philip Sharman, fuels director.

“We are proud to support the transition to renewable energy and to enhance our reach in the marketplace.” By expanding our HVO fuel provision, Carr’s Billington Fuels continues to lead the way in promoting environmentally responsible energy solutions.
