Hutchinsons look to answer growers’ questions at Croptec

Growers looking for answers on carbon, the Sustainable Farming Incentive, the Environmental Land Management Scheme or the latest agroecological practises will be able to visit the Hutchinsons stand at Croptec and speak to technical experts.

As a business, Hutchinsons has been developing services and technologies to allow growers to work towards these goals, all of which have been trialled, tested and validated at a farm-scale level at the Helix Farms.

TerraMap Carbon is the first-ever carbon mapping service to provide the most accurate baseline measurement of both organic and active carbon in the soil and is now available to UK farmers.

How can the carbon measurements be used? Within the Omnia Carbon management tool, it is possible to create different rotation scenarios from types of cropping and variety to stewardship and management practices and see first-hand the projected CO2 impact and financial performance for each scenario.

Future Services within Omnia will offer the ability to also create potential cropping scenarios to calculate costs of production allowing users to make decisions on how to manage both carbon and profit before putting a crop into the ground.

Environmental Services: The switch from direct support to environmentally-focused payments present massive challenges over coming years. Hutchinsons is helping growers plan the best way forward to benefit from the opportunities available by evaluating the many stewardship options to help farmers make more informed decisions at a trial site at Warboys, Cambs.

Agroecology Services. This autumn sees the launch of the first Hutchinsons Agroecology Helix Farm that will focus solely on the principles and practices of Agroecology. The aim is to look to answer some of the bigger picture questions surrounding Agroecology practices.
