New range of compact tractors set for UK

Conagri, a construction and agricultural equipment dealer, has partnered with Indian compact tractor brand Captain Tractors to launch the brand in the UK.

The Devon-based dealer group is the sole UK distributor of the tractor brand and attachments. It has appointed Terry Harrison Machinery in South Wales and AMIA in the South West as the first dealers and is actively seeking out more nationwide.

It will also showcase the Captain Tractors product range at trade events, including Royal Highland, Royal Welsh, Devon County, Royal Bath and West, and Royal Cornwall.

The Captain Tractors brand comprises five series from 15 to 28hp, weighing between 780kg and 945kg. According to the company, common features include a purposefully slow first gear that maxes out at 1.43kph to maximise tillage operations.

The company also has an aerospace division, authorised by the CAA to rebuild aircraft and aero engines.

Conagri is currently selling the 25hp 263 model, with manual or automatic gearing, from its Crediton site, with 13 sold already.

Conagri business development manager Andrew Venton said: “Captain Tractors invented the high-end compact tractor as we know it so when we were offered the opportunity to be the brand’s sole UK distributor we jumped at it.

“The management expertise and pedigree of Captain Tractors meant there was nothing more to consider other than how many shall we order. Conagri are early adaptors, who like Captain, prefer to lead and have others follow, so we were made for each other!”

Terry Harrison Machinery initially took nine machines in stock, with two already sold to local operators. Some of the remaining machines are fitted with loaders.

Owner Terry Harrison said: “I knew quite a bit about Captain Tractors before we were offered the opportunity to become a dealer. They are good quality machines and their price is obviously very attractive. It is early season yet but the signs so far are very good.”
