Cummins’ hydrogen-powered, internal combustion engine – the H2-ICE – went on show for the first time at EIMA International.
Rated at 290hp and offering 1,200Nm peak torque, the first hydrogen model, the B6.7H, is said to provide diesel-like performance while using zero-carbon hydrogen.
Key to the engine is the commonality of parts between the hydrogen and diesel models, enabling easy maintenance for users running mixed fleets.
Phil Dawson, general manager, agriculture, said: “Showcasing the B6.7H at EIMA demonstrates our ability to provide agriculture OEMs with a range of sustainable power options for all duty-cycles. The B6.7H engine’s lean combustion technology provides zero-carbon power to support our customers’ decarbonisation strategies.”
The company also offers a larger hydrogen power unit, the X15H, with power ratings of up to 530hp and torque levels of 2,600Nm.
Stage V engines
The company also celebrated five years of Stage V engine production, with more than 100,000 Cummins units being produced since 2019.
A new F4.5 structural engine, designed for 120-160hp tractors was showcased. It features a structural cylinder block, oil pan and gear housing along with DOC/DPF mounting flexibility.
Phil notes: “We are now making this product available with a structural block and oil pan for agricultural tractor applications. As part of our Performance Series range, it will deliver more machine capability and substantial productivity benefits for the farmers who operate Cummins powered equipment.”
The L9 Harvest engine continues the development of the L9 platform, designed specifically for the high RPM operation of combine harvesters. The design includes a larger VGT turbocharger and reinforced exhaust manifold.
Destination Zero
The display from the company made up part of its Destination Zero strategy, which has seen $1.4bn in investment in research and development, and $250m spent in Europe alone.
The investment includes the development of hydrogen engines and battery solutions.
