John Deere announces updates to its Precision Ag Technology

For 2023, John Deere has announced an update to its range of precision agriculture technologies. These include the G5 Display family of products, featuring full high-definition resolution, additional memory and increased processing power.

The unit comes in two portable versions, suitable for use with all brands, as well as two integrated monitors for certain John Deere machines and an Extended Monitor option. The G5 is 10.1 inches, while the G5Plus is 12.8 inches, meaning the new range offers up to 33% additional screen space for mapping and information.

Both portable displays offer IP65 water resistance, while the G5Plus comes with AutoTrac and Section Control as standard. All units are fully ISOBUS compatible.

The user interface from the Generation 4 displays has been brought up to the G5, while a new licence program means that users only pay for what they need, with reduced upfront costs.

The G5 and G5Plus Universal displays will be available later this year, while the integrated CommandCenter variants will be available in John Deere machines from 2024.

    Additional updates

The company has also announced a new JDLink Modem. The M Modem is said to be an affordable alternative to the existing R Modem, and is a plug-and-play solution for mixed fleets. Both units are compatible with the SAE J1939 protocol and can process over 14 data points from different machine brands.

Alongside this, the latest Starfire 7000 was introduced last year, with a new RTK signal accurate to 2.5cm and with a pull-in time of fewer than eight minutes. It also offers better connectivity than previous generations due to the additions of Galileo and Beidou satellite signals.
