Brought into the UK through Terrington Machinery, weeding specialist Einböck introduced the Invera in-row cultivator.
Using a camera system mounted on each row, and AI technology to monitor the images and recognise individual weeds, the system then controls a pair of hydraulic hoeing blades to destroy weeds within the crop row.
The system is self-learning, enabling it to distinguish between crops and weeds more effectively and it can currently operate at speeds up to 5kph in crop rows with plant spacings of 10cm.
Two models are available: the Air which manages height control automatically without the need for wheels, while the Plus has feeler wheels. The Invera is currently available in working widths up to 6m, or 12 rows. The Plus also features a duckfoot share that moves between the crop rows to remove weeds across the full field area.
