Tractor of the Year – Open Field: JCB Fastrac iCON 4220

The Fastrac iCON builds upon the previous generation of machines, with an overhauled control system that works in conjunction with the AGCO transmission to offer increased control. The software of the in-cab display has been redesigned for smartphone functionality, with a new control layout with configurable buttons, operator or implement one-touch profiles and two schemes for the transmission.

Power comes from a SISU AGCO Power engine, offering 240hp maximum and 1,000Nm of torque, with the stepless two-stage CVT transmission offering a 60kph top speed at just 1,750rpm. Control of the gearbox can be seamlessly switched between the lever and the pedal without any further input.

The design of the Fastrac, with four equal-sized wheels across two independently controlled axles. This enables the integration of multiple steering systems, including four-wheel and crab-steer, as well as a delayed steering and ‘true track’ system both of which enable the machine to work effectively in high value or row crops.

This layout has also led to the development of the Twin Steer GPS option, with receivers on both axles to accurately guide the machine up rows, or when working on slopes.

A lift capacity of 8,000kg is available at the rear, while the front linkage can handle 3,500kg. Through the closed-centre, load-sensing system, 195 litres per minute is available through up to four rear and two front couplers.

As standard, double-acting, hydro-pneumatic suspension is fitted across the front and rear, which reacts to ground contours and the mounted implements to not only dampen shocks but adjust the weight of the machine to increase traction in the field.

GPS guidance, ISOBUS and other precision farming systems are available for the Fastrac, as well as telematics and proactive maintenance through the JCB Livelink system.
