Corbion and UFAC-UK Ltd expand distribution of Omega-3 rich microalgae ingredient, AlgaPrimeTM DHA

Corbion, the global market leader in algae ingredients for use in animal feed, announces the expansion of AlgaPrime™ DHA to animal feed markets in the UK and Ireland.  AlgaPrime DHA is a clean and sustainable source of omega-3s produced using algae.

With a low carbon footprint, AlgaPrime DHA is an alternative to fish oil and helps to reduce pressure on global wild fish populations. In partnership with UFAC-UK, a leading specialist in the manufacturing of energy, protein and omega-3 supplements for use in animal feeds, AlgaPrime DHA is poised to increase its distribution and quickly address the growing market demand for plant-based omega-3 fatty acids in livestock feed.

AlgaPrime™ DHA is an ingredient that contains higher levels of omega-3 than fish oils and over three times more than salmon oil. Omega-3s play a crucial role in reproductive health and young animal nutrition. Using AlgaPrime DHA in finishing diets allows brands to enhance the nutritional profile of eggs and meat with omega-3 to benefit human health. Corbion and UFAC-UK seek to expand on their recent success in this market, as consumers become more aware of the need to consume omega-3s.

Corbion produces AlgaPrime DHA at a large scale which enables the industry to use AlgaPrime as a standard ingredient in salmon feed globally. This proven track record offers feed mills, farmers and pre-mix producers a reliable and consistent source of omega-3 competitively.

“Formalising our relationship with UFAC-UK into a partnership helps us further access a key and innovative feed market. The UK has a leading retail space, driving a demand for sustainability in the food supply chains. AlgaPrime DHA will help further reduce reliance on fish oils and drive sustainability in animal feeds,” said Luke Townsend, sales director AlgaPrime DHA Europe.

“We’re very pleased to be working with UFAC-UK who have a wealth of experience; we’re confident they have the capabilities to address this important market for Corbion,” said Karel Bierman, Head of Animal Nutrition at Corbion.

“We are delighted to confirm this partnership. Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of everything we do, and we are constantly developing and evolving our ranges to make the difference at this critical period of change, not just for UK and Irish agriculture, but for food and farming worldwide,” said UFAC-UK Managing Director, Robert Jones. He added, “Our relationship with Corbion strengthens this position, and we look forward to working closely with them in this key market.”
