Meadow foods raise £3500 for walking with the wounded

Employees from Meadow Foods, the UK’s largest independent dairy and leading supplier of milk based dairy ingredients to the food industry, completed the Cumbrian Challenge last weekend and raised more than £3500 for Walking with the Wounded.

Three teams of Meadow Foods employees entered the annual event, which was established in 2010 with the aim to support all veterans with physical, mental or social injuries in order to help re-integrate them into society and develop new careers for their long term well being.

The three teams included employees from their head office in Chester, Peterborough and Holme-on-Spalding Moor sites and were competing against 66 other teams as well as wounded service men and women. The teams faced a choice of two breath-taking routes over the stunning peaks of the Lake District – the ‘Tough’ 20km trail or the ‘Tougher’ 29km route for more advanced teams.

David Farrer, the Meadow Foods team captain comments: “We’re extremely pleased to have raised such a substantial amount of money for a great charity. The event was a great success and the Meadow Foods teams placed 5th, 11th and 17th which is great when competing against 66 other teams. Everyone enjoyed the challenge, especially because the weather was kind to us and we even managed to beat last year’s time whilst raising more than £3500 for WWTW.”

Walking with the Wounded raises money to retrain and re-skill wounded service men and woman and support them in finding new careers outside the Military. For more information on Walking with the Wounded please visit www.walkingwiththewounded.org.uk

Meadow Foods operates from factories in Chester, Peterborough and Holme-on-Spalding Moor. Their products include cream, butter, sweetened condensed milk, anhydrous milk fat, chocolate crumb and cultured products. The company, founded in 1992, now employs more than 250 people and has a turnover in excess of £340m.
