AIC looks to show value of the seed sector

The Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) has created a short, animated video to help farmers, food and feed manufacturers, legislators and the public understand the function and the value of the seed sector to Food Processors, Animal Feeds and Bioenergy.

“If you want a simple but insightful overview of the UK seed industry and its part in the $60bn global seed sector watch this animation”, said AIC’s new head of seed & arable marketing, Rose Riby.

The animation explains the role between seed breeders and end users, the development of new varieties, and the benefits to farmers. It also explains crop monitoring and the safe application of seed treatments, including traceability and meeting legislative requirements.

“Like many sectors across agriculture once you lift the lid you see the complexities but also the collaborations that make the sector so strong”, said Ms Riby. “The seed sector represents such an exciting prospect to address many productivity and sustainability issues for our world and indeed the recent announcement in the Queen’s Speech to bring forward a new Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Bill will undoubtedly attract much interest and investment”.

The animation can be viewed on the Seeds Page of the AIC website, or on YouTube. Farmers, merchants, food processors, animal feed manufacturers and Bioenergy companies are encouraged to share this video with customers and stakeholders to help explain why the seed industry plays such an important role in underpinning a sustainable, commercial UK Agri-food supply chain.
