Following the announcement that June registrations saw a smaller drop year-on-year than previous months in 2025, the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) has released data by power and region for the first half of the year.
The total of 4,869 machines between January and June represents the lowest level of registrations for the first six months since 1990, representing a 17% decrease year-on-year.
This drop was seen across every power bracket, although the largest drop has been seen in machines over 240hp, which fell 38% when compared to the same period in 2024. This is understandable, as high-horsepower machines were the only sector to grow last year.
The drop below 240hp was 14%, a not-insubstantial figure. This has also had a significant impact on the average horsepower in the UK, which has dropped nearly 7hp from 180.7hp to 173.8hp.
All parts of the UK saw a decrease. This was less pronounced in the southern counties, which saw the largest declines in 2024, and the AEA notes that Northern Ireland performed well compared to the rest of the UK.
The sharpest declines were seen in the Midlands and the North of England, where many regions fell by 30% or more when compared to the same period last year.
