Tractor of the Year 2024 – Open Field: Fendt 620 Vario DP

Developed with the aim of offering a powerful, yet compact tractor, the new 600 Vario series from Fendt is topped out by the Fendt 620. It’s powered by a newly developed AGCO Power engine, offering a rated power of 209hp, with the Dynamic Performance system providing an additional 15hp automatically based on the tractor’s performance and irrespective of forward speed or PTO load.

With an unladen weight of 7,700kg, the Fendt 620 has a power to weight ratio of 34.4kg per horsepower and boasts a payload to operating index of 75%, with 5,800kg available. This is 5% than the previous generation of 700 Vario machines and is said to be the highest on the market.

Brought down through the tractor portfolio is the latest VarioDrive transmission, with separate hydrostatic motors driving the front and rear axles. This provides permanent four-wheel drive as well as the pull-in turn effect to reduce the turning circle to just 10.2m, a full 0.6m smaller than the previous generation of 700 Vario machines.

The closed centre, load sensing hydraulic system offers 152 or 205 litres per minute, feeding leak free, flat face couplings, with the option of a Power Beyond connection. Capacity at the rear linkage is 9,790kg, with the optional front linkage able to lift 4,400kg.

In the VisioPlus cabin, there is 77 degrees of vertical visibility through the front windscreen, with front wipers covering 300 degrees and side wipers covering 97 degrees of the right-hand window. The FendtONE system is fitted, with two terminals as standard, the option of a third display and the 3L-Joystick for control of up to 27 functions. As an option, Fendt has developed the ErgoSteer system, enabling the tractor to be steered with an armrest-mounted joystick.

The Fendt 620 Vario DP is also a finalist in the Sustainable ToTY category.
