    Bobcat extends R2 mini-excavator range

The latest eight-tonne E88 mini-excavator is a new addition to the Bobcat R2 series, replacing the E85 M-Series machine. Powered by a 65hp, Stage V engine, it offers new features and options, including an optional fourth AUX4 tilt coupler line and a fifth AUX5 hydraulic coupler line fitted as standard.

Smooth controllability is ensured thanks to low-effort joysticks and a five-inch, or seven-inch display. The machine is also said to offer class-leading visibility, exceptional transportability and large, easy-opening covers for ground level access to all service points.

Like previous R2-Series machines, the E88 features a spacious cabin with plenty of headroom and legroom. Wide doors and Bobcat’s 3D handle ensure that entry and exit from the machine are easy and safe, alongside an anti-slip step on the undercarriage and foot space above the track.

The seat can be adjusted longitudinally and vertically and comes as standard with a headrest. As an option, the seat can also be heated. Seat adjustment is independent of the joystick and armrest adjustment, which are ergonomically placed within easy reach of the operator.

As standard, the E88 is fitted with a powerful heating and air conditioning system, with the option to upgrade to automatic temperature control.

To ensure good visibility, the E88 is fitted with narrower cab pillars and ample glass. Rear visibility is said to be excellent, combined with a downward sloping righthand cover that does not restrict the view to the side.

Front and boom LED lights, protected against damage, ensure a clear view even when working at night or in rainy or foggy weather. A rear LED kit can be specified, as can a rear camera kit that links to the in-cab display.

    High performance

The low-effort joysticks are coupled with a new generation control valve, offering improved metering, finite movement and improved feedback. The E88 offers high breakout forces and fast cycle times, with smart hydraulics to evenly distribute oil flow to ensure maximum performance.

An optimised blade has been designed with a self-cleaning shape, with a short arm, power tilt and grading bucket. The blade flota function also simplifies grading and levelling, with a minimal, consistent downforce.

The E88 is available with Standard Arm and Long Arm configurations, with up to five arm mounted hydraulic lines and the award-winning A-SAC (Advanced Selectable Auxiliary Control) system to match any attachment being used.

The AUX1 general purpose hydraulic line and AUX5 for hydraulic coupler control are standard equipment on the E88. The AUX2 hydraulic line for supporting functions such as rotation and the AUX4 hydraulic line for tilting control is available as an option. The AUX3 line for clam shell bucket (bucket diverter) operation is part of the kit list for the E88.

Like the rest of the R2-Series, the E88 is said to be well-balanced when working with different attachments thanks to the improved weight distribution, extended track length, optimised counterweight and dual flange rollers. For extreme conditions, there is also an optional 407kg counterweight available.

Without the optional counterweight, the rear overhang is just 327mm, enabling the machine to be used in confined spaces. The design ensures that the machine is low maintenance, with heavy-duty steel side channels and the counterweight acting as a bumper to protect essential components.

For improved transportability, the E88 is 100mm narrower than the outgoing model despite the higher lift capacities. The width of 2,200mm and height of 2,540mm enable the machine to be transported on a container truck.
