McCormick X5 gets new power units and performance upgrades

The latest X5 series from McCormick features three models, with maximum outputs of 95hp, 102hp and 114hp, and two specification levels. Efficient is designed to offer entry-level equipment, while the Premium range features additional options to meet customer needs. In addition to this, the X5.100 and X5.110 are available as High Clearance (HC) machines, suited to horticultural operations.

Under the hood, the Stage 3B/Tier 4 Interim engines have been replaced with new FPT F36, four-cylinder Stage V units with turbo intercoolers, common rail electronic injection and a full after-treatment system. To retain visibility, the exhaust gas treatment (EGR) technology is integrated under the bonnet.

Diesel capacity has been increased to 135 litres, with a 13-litre AdBlue tank. McCormick also states that there is a 10% reduction in fuel consumption during operation. A new hydraulic circuit offers flow rates of up to 82 litres per minute, with a 32-litre independent system for the steering line and up to 35 litres available for use. This is said to translate to greater operational convenience, with faster execution and the possibility of performing multiple tasks simultaneously.

At the front of the machine, there is the option of a suspended front axle on Premium tractors, which can be combined with the new mechanical cab suspension to improve operator comfort. The Total View Slim cabin has a four-pillar structure and a wide glazed area for 360-degree visibility. It can be further specified with up to ten LED lights and has a transparent roof hatch for loader work.

There are eight transmission options, ranging from the four-speed 12×12, with a mechanical shuttle, to the T-Tronic 48×16 with Hi-Medium-Low, hydraulic shuttle and creeper gears. The Park Lock option holds the X5 steady, even on steep slopes. To further optimise fuel consumption, the Memo Switch Engine recalls engine speeds for different operations. The Twin Lock system simultaneously locks the front and rear differentials to maximise traction and automatically engages and disengages for greater efficiency, and four-wheel integral braking is also possible thanks to the IBS system.

Up to six hydraulic spools can be fitted, three of which are mechanically controlled, one is electronically operated and two can be mid-mounted for front hitch and loader purposes. Standard, kick-out, floating and hydraulic motor spools can be specified, with customisable configurations. It is possible to option the flow selector system to manage up to seven hydraulic connectors.

Electronic and mechanical hitches are available, equipped with the Ergonomic Lift System (ELS) which allows headland manoeuvres to be carried out more quickly. Electronic units also allow operations to be repeated, setting the hitch to the same position as before. Regardless of the specification, the hitches have a capacity of 4,500kg. As standard, the PTO comes with two speeds, but this can be upgraded to a four-speed unit and Auto-PTO is available with electronic hitches.

In the cabin, a new joystick offers easy management of the loader, including third and fourth functions, as well as transmission controls. All X5 models are available with McCormick front loaders, as well as satellite guidance and ISOBUS systems, and the McCormick Fleet Management telematics system to monitor machines and implement a scheduled maintenance plan.
