Massey Ferguson (MF) has introduced its latest range, with the MF 1755 E and MF 1740 E Series compact tractors.

    MF 1755 E

With the MF 1755 E model, 54hp is provided by a four-cylinder, 2.4-litre engine, on a 1,980mm wheelbase. These specifications mean that the MF 1755 E is ideal for work on small farms, horticultural units and other enterprises; particularly thanks to its 1,200kg lift capacity, Cat 1 three-point linkage and 32.2 litre/min hydraulic flow.

Standard for the MF 1755 E is a 12 forward/12 reverse mechanical gearbox with a shuttle reverser. The gearbox offers four gears in three ranges; changed by levers mounted alongside the operator’s seat. Synchronised direction changes are simplified via the shuttle lever, located below the steering wheel on the left-hand side.

Operators can set the working height and adjust the linkage lifting and lowering speeds with the position control. To activate the 540rpm Independent PTO, electro-hydraulically, there is a switch on the dashboard; this provides a choice of standard or Soft Start engagement for high inertia loads, while a stationary PTO is mounted on the rear fender.

Four floating rubber insulators minimise vibrations to the MF 1755 E’s flat-floor platform, for increased operator comfort. Full access to the engine for servicing/checks is provided by the one-piece bonnet which lifts fully open, with gas strut assistance.

    MF 1740 E

The smaller tractor in the new E Series, the MF 1740 E delivers 40hp from its three-cylinder, 1.8-litre engine, mounted on a 1,675mm wheelbase.

With a hydraulic pump flow rate of 28.3 litres/min and a 1,000kg lift capacity from the Cat 1 three-point linkage, the MF 1740 E can handle a wide range of implements; it is a multipurpose vehicle – from work in the fields to operating in orchards or undercover in polytunnels.

The mechanical gearbox provides 8 forward/8 reverse speeds. Four gears in two ranges are selected using a central main gearshift lever and a separate range lever. Direction changes are made easily using the synchronised shuttle lever, mounted under the steering wheel.

The MF 1740 E has position control to set and maintain precise working heights, and benefits from adjustable speed for lifting and lowering. All operator controls are positioned on either side of the seat, with the operator working from the tractor’s semi-platform.

A 540rpm Independent PTO is fitted as standard on the MF 1740 E, with a stationary PTO mounted on the rear fender. Standard or Soft Start is selectable for powered equipment operations.

Like the MF 1755 E, the MF 1740 E also benefits from the one-piece bonnet for easy engine maintenance.
