Workshop aims to make an impact

Making an impact on beef and sheep farms is the theme of an AHDB Beef & Lamb event for industry advisers taking place next month.

The workshop, which is part of AHDB’s Farm Excellence Platform, takes place on 20 September in Stratford-Upon-Avon, is open to vets, consultants, farm suppliers and other professionals who advise beef and sheep producers. The event will have a knowledge exchange (KE) focus and aims to equip delegates with the information and tools to help their clients become more competitive and resilient, focusing on how to ensure more stock meet target specification.

Attendees will hear about the KE campaigns AHDB Beef & Lamb is running right through the supply chain to ensure more stock meet target specification. These include the ten new AHDB Beef & Lamb Strategic Farms, working with dedicated supply chains boosting our resource to deliver selection messages and promoting the use of sexed semen.

Delegates will also receive an update on findings from recent research and development (R&D) activity which can easily be applied on beef and sheep farms, including:

    • Improved youngstock health by focusing on the basics
    • Boosting grass production by using nitrogen
    • New Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) in 2018

Sarah Pick, AHDB Knowledge Exchange Manager, said: “The workshop is a great way of informing key people in the industry about the tools and technical information available from AHDB Beef & Lamb. Learning about the work the organisation is carrying out means that advisers will be better placed to deliver best-practice advice on health, breeding and nutrition to beef and sheep producers.”

Accelerating innovation and productivity growth through coordinated R&D and KE is identified as a priority within the AHDB 2017-2020 ‘Inspiring success’ strategy. KE will be delivered through AHDB’s Farm Excellence Platform, which strives to help industry to improve performance and succeed through farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange.

Registration for the workshop closes on 15 September 2017. To book your free place, register online.
