New holland’s CR11 combine harvester to be fitted with two Michelin Cerexbib 2 tyres

Two new Michelin CerexBib 2 tyres have been developed are a result of an exclusive partnership with New Holland, a brand of CNH.

The new tyre sizes – VF 900/65 R46 CFO and VF 800/70 R46 CFO – use the patented Michelin Ultraflex Technology, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. They have been specially designed for the CR11 combine harvester.

According to Michelin, the combine’s dimensions and weight represented a unique development challenge – how to minimise soil compaction given the exceptional width of the machine and its tyres.

“We are proud of our partnership with New Holland. It was a real technical challenge. Innovation and excellence are part of the Group’s DNA,” says Nicolas Reboul, Michelin’s OE sales agricultural director.

“That’s why Michelin will continue to play a major role in tomorrow’s agriculture, by promoting an increasingly environmentally friendly approach while improving productivity.”

The tyres offer a load capacity of 19t per tyre, and a diameter of 2.32m (for the VF 900/65 R46 CFO size).

Combined with a new rear axle configuration, these fitments increase the vehicle’s footprint by 23% and reduce ground pressure by 7%, but also optimise overall fuel consumption.

A study by England’s Harper Adams University, begun in 2012, showed that tyres with Michelin Ultraflex Technology, inflated at low pressure, could increase yields by up to 4%.
