Agrifac has announced a new electric driveline for its current generation of self-propelled sprayers, enabling machines to be supplied in diesel-electric, hybrid or fully-electric configurations.
In the diesel-electric configuration, a six-cylinder diesel engine supplies power to the driveline via a generator. The hybrid model runs on a battery pack, and a compact, four-cylinder engine acts as a range extender, which recharges the battery. The fully electric unit runs solely on a charged battery pack.
According to the company, the new set-up also leaves room to adopt other energy sources in the future.
The electric drivetrain is said to be more efficient, with 95% of power reaching the wheels. As a result, more power is available. Agrifac states that the hybrid model can deliver 301hp continuously, with peak power of 447hp available for short periods.
Diesel-electric models are expected to reduce fuel consumption by around 35%, rising to 50% with the hybrid model.
“The transition to a more sustainable drive does not follow the same path in every market or for every customer. With this platform we are developing a single electric basis onto which different energy supplies can be applied. This means the customer can choose a solution that suits their operations, without us losing sight of the machine’s operational availability,” says Friso Berkhout, systems innovation engineer at Agrifac.
The platform is currently being tested ahead of further development, with the first machines set for delivery in 2027.
