Syngenta 3D ninety nozzle receives highest UK LERAP rating

The new Syngenta 3D ninety nozzle has been awarded the highest available rating in the UK testing system, the LERAP 4* rating; which recognises the nozzle’s unique 90% drift reduction technology (DRT) design and its impressive ability to operate at up to a five bar pressure with 05, 06 and 08 sized nozzles.

“Nozzles have typically only achieved their best LERAP ratings when operated at lower pressures, in order to reduce the proportion of more drifty fine droplets,” explained Syngenta’s application specialist Harry Fordham.

“The design of the 3D ninety consistently produces a more even droplet spectrum and maintains the pattern even at higher pressures; giving added flexibility to adjust pressure and forward speed on the move, to maintain the desired water volume application rate.”

Trials have shown that the 3D ninety’s angled design nozzle has given at least as good, if not better, results in pre-emergence herbicide applications, when compared to the previously acclaimed Defy 3D nozzle.

In grass weed trials, the 3D ninety provides an 18% improvement in control from a pre-emergence treatment of Defy + flufenacet/diflufenican, compared to the Defy 3D, and a 31% bettering of the air-induction 90% DRT nozzle.

Three seasons of independents research in the Eurofins evaluation trials have also shown the 3D ninety nozzle to repeatedly perform the most effectively in blight control, with Revus and Amphore Plus programmes, making it ideal for potato blight foliar applications. The 3D ninety successfully kept out blight throughout the full treatment season, compared to 3% to 5% infection with conventional flat fan nozzles.

“The key lies in the specific 55-degree angle of the nozzle design,” said Mr Fordham. “With the very consistently sized droplets, that angle is optimised for all-round coverage of seedbed soil clods. The angle of spray ensures there is good coverage of the top leaves, while the larger droplets provide the momentum to penetrate deeper into the crop. Together, it gives very effective spray retention throughout the canopy for better results.”

The Syngenta 3D ninety features an integrated snap-lock cap, in place of the conventional bayonet cap. It is available now in the 05 size, while a full range of sizes from 03 to 08 available in autumn of 2022.
