New carbon insetting programme launches for agri-food supply chain

Regenagri has launched a new global carbon insetting programme, providing farmers and growers a route to monetise positive environmental impacts.

Franco Costantini, CEO, explains: “We’re pleased an initial group of five producers across the USA, Brazil, Turkey, India and the Ivory Coast are already pioneering our carbon insetting programme, turning their regenerative practices across over 287,000 hectares into financial returns.

“This group includes different types of regenagri-certified organisations, from individual farms to smallholder collectives and farm cooperatives, growing a diverse range of crops, including cotton, grain and coffee.”

By the end of this year, it’s hoped that the programme will double its hectarage, resulting in an estimated 10-25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

“As part of the regenagri-certification process, farms undergo annual third-party audits to validate their GHG and carbon reduction data, according to the GHG Protocol and IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) principles,” Franco adds.

“For those registered for the programme, carbon insetting units will be issued based on the reduction in carbon footprint – offering a valuable financial benefit to producers, as well as benefitting the planet.

“The programme also provides supply chain organisations with the opportunity to decarbonise their operations by purchasing the carbon insetting units generated on the very farms they source from. This ensures direct impact.”
