Tractor of the Year 2026 – TotY HighPower – Case IH Optum 440

Extending its multi-purpose, high-horsepower Optum range, Case IH has entered the new flagship 440 model. It features an FPT Cursor 9 engine, offering 435hp without boost, and 1,851Nm of torque available at 1,400rpm. The engine has an electronic variable geometry turbo and runs at just 1,195rpm when travelling at 40kph.

A new, multi-stage engine braking system has been integrated into the machine, with automatic or manual functionality. This is complemented by front inboard braking and the advanced trailer braking system, which proportionally activates the trailer brakes to limit the risk of jack-knifing.

The stepless CVXDrive has been updated, with the company claiming that it is always close to full mechanical drive for greater efficiency. This is available as a 40kph box as standard, with 50kph and 60kph top speeds available as an option.

The remote valves have been laid out for easier access, with an additional oil reservoir to aid with high-powered implements and new 1 3/4in valves for 170 litres/min at the spool. The hydraulic system itself is 220 litres/min as standard, with a dual-pump high flow option of 360 litres/min.

Up to 11,800kg can be lifted at the rear linkage, with the front linkage carrying up to 6,016kg.

As an option, the company offers a twin cylinder, gear-driven central tyre inflation system said to increase tyre pressures by 1bar in under five minutes. Two field pressures can be stored and recalled at the touch of a button, with a single road pressure memory.

The front axle has independent suspension, with load compensation, anti-pitch and anti-roll functionality, and up to 250mm of total travel. This complements the newly designed cab suspension with double pan hard rods and angled dampers, which can reportedly reduce vertical acceleration by 19% and pitch by 25%.
